Vancouver Charter Fishing, March 15th Report
We have been out on the water a lot over the last week. We have hit some nice legal feeder chinook up to 12 pounds and some undersize fish as well. We have been finding fish in Vancouver Harbour, Howe Sound, and further out in Georgia Strait. Over the last few days the outer reaches of Vancouver Harbour have started to kick out a few more fish than previously in the winter. A lot of the fish have been undersize, but there have been reports of fish up to 20 pounds caught. You still definitely have to put your time in out there, but persistence and fishing the right areas at the right time will kick out a good fish or two.
We have been having our luck on Silver Horde spoons and Gibbs Gypsy spoons...(Glo Flo Green and the Flamin Hans) The fish are mostly right on bottom as per usual for winter chinook salmon. The fish will start to suspend very soon and it will pay off to run a couple lines higher up in the water column!
April and May are typically two of the better months to fish for chinook salmon in the Vancouver area! Good numbers of feeding salmon gather off the south end of Bowen Island, the QA marker, and the outer reaches of Vancouver Harbour. The Gulf Islands also start to get really good in late April and produce well into June and July.
