Vancouver Fishing Report, July 1st

We have been on the water a lot over the last 5 days...  Unfortunately, the fishing has been a little on the tough side.  We have been fishing the Gulf Islands, Howe Sound, and the West Van Shoreline with some success, but you HAVE to put your time in.  We are hoping this hit and miss fishing turns around shortly. West Vancouver has had a few nice chinook and the odd coho so far, but as of now, it is still pretty scratchy.  You have to grind it out to get a few bites.   We were out on an 8 hour trip today and we had 4 bites and landed a nice chinook and a small coho.  Our other bites did not hook up.    Howe Sound has seen some nice chinook and it is looking like the Squamish River run is entering local waters in better numbers each day.  If you work the spots in Howe Sound, you should have a shot at a decent chinook or two each morning.  Now that it is July,  things will happen shortly as they always do, let's hope things get going this week!  Anchovies, white hootchies, and 3 to 4 inch spoons (G Force and Silver Horde)are what you need this time of year. The Fraser River is now really on the drop and the sturgeon fishing is starting to really pick up as expected.  July and August are great months to get on the big river!  We have sturgeon trips that depart only 25 minutes from Vancouver!
