Christmas Salmon Fishing Report - 2023
Only a few more days until Christmas! The weather over the last month has been warmer and calmer than normal. This has meant that we have been on the water a lot and been able to target winter chinook salmon with ease. The fishing has been solid in Vancouver with good numbers of winter chinook in Howe Sound and Vancouver Harbour. Our Sidney salmon charters on Vancouver Island have also been successful with some nice fish coming from Haro Strait! Good sign for the coming months! In Vancouver, we have been spending most of our time fishing the usual spots in Howe Sound. Spoons have been good producers for us, Skinny Gs in particular. We have also found some nice fish in Vancouver Harbour, near the freighters and out toward the Bell Buoy.
In Sidney, Haro Strait has been productive near James, Sidney and Moresby Island. Little coho killers on bottom seem to be getting them as their is lots of sandlance in the area.
Our Sidney based fishing charter boats got fresh engines this fall and are all rigged and ready with new engines!
GOOD NEWS FOR APRIL AND MAY!!! Hatchery chinook salmon will be open for retention in Sidney this spring. We will have two boats based out of the Port Sidney Marina to take advantage of this retention fishery. It will be one of the few spots on the coast that has a retention fishery for chinook salmon in the spring. It is a quick ferry ride from Vancouver. We can also do pick ups from the Southern Gulf Island's ! Check out our Sidney Fishing Charter Page here: www.bonchovy.com/fishing-packages/sidney-vancouver-island-fishing-packages.html
We are open all winter long and during the Christmas holidays. Give us a call if you want to get out on the water to chase winter chinook salmon in Vancouver or Sidney!
