Late April Fishing Charter Report for Vancouver and Sidney
RIght on time, some nicer, bigger fish are showing up in Georgia and Haro Straits! Our Vancouver and Sidney trips have been quite successful this last week with some really nice fish being landed. Vancouver is still non retention for chinook salmon, Sidney is open for retention of hatchery marked chinook. Ling cod open for retention in the Gulf Islands and Sidney area tomorrow. In Vancouver, we have been fishing out in the deeper water in Georgia Strait. As we progress into May, the Gulf Islands near Gabriola Island should also pick up. Crabbing has been quite good and we can drop crab traps in Vancouver until the first week of June. We have seen encouraging signs that we will be in for another good coho salmon fishery in local waters. Hatchery coho open up for retention on the 1st of June. We are optimistic that we will see some solid coho fishing like last June!
Our Sidney fishing charters have landed some BEAUTIFUL hatchery chinook this past week. We have had some dandies in the mid teens back to the dock. Skinny Gs and coho killers have worked really well. Sidney is one of the few areas that is open for the retention of hatchery chinook in Southern BC. May is a solid month to target chinook in Sidney. Ling cod also open tomorrow!! If you are looking at a day trip or a multiple day trip, give us a call, May is a very good bet.
