New Year's Fishing Report In Vancouver!
We are now about a month in to our winter chinook salmon season in local Vancouver waters. Overall, it has been a very encouraging start with decent numbers of legal and undersize fish around. Some days you have to work for them, but more often than not a handful of hook ups an outing has been pretty common this year, sometimes more! Most boats have been focusing their efforts on the traditional winter chinook haunts in the Vancouver area. We have been fishing Howe Sound, the Gulf Islands, and Vancouver Harbour . Over the last handful of days, the inner reaches of Vancouver Harbour have seen decent numbers of fish, mostly along the West Vancouver Shorline and the QB Marker. We made a couple trips over to the Gulf Island's this week and the action was very good with 10 to 15 hook ups being average. Unfortunately, most of the fish were undersize, with only the odd legal fish. This should change in coming weeks as these fish continue to feed. Howe Sound has seen some decent fish over the last week in all the usual spots.
Here is short video from Tabitha Lin of her trip with us a couple weeks ago with her family! We have been using a few of our favourite set ups so far this year with good success. The Gibbs Delta G Force Trailhead and Bon Chovy Spoon in the 3.0 and 3.5 size, Silver Horde Homeland Security in the 3.0 and green/glow Irish Cream Coho Killers have been our best producers recently. In terms of flashers, we have had most of our success with the Guide Series Lemon Lime, but we have also had some good results with the STS, Madi, and Bonchovy. We are now back from holiday mode and we will be in our charter/tackle shop on most days starting next week. We will also be having some great deals on used rods and reels and tackle from January 20 to 24th during the Vancouver International Boat Show. Our charter/tackle shop is right next to the Floating Boat Show on Granville Island. We will post about the specials in 10 days or so.
Once again, we will be running our winter chinook charter special this year! Look for details on our blog and on our Facebook page early next week. If you want to get out to chase these winter chromers or learn about the local winter chinook fishery, please give us a call or an email! Happy New Year!
